RISE Musical Theatre Company Membership

Welcome to the RISE Musical Theatre Company—a training program designed for young performers who are ready to take their musical theatre education to the next level. Divided into two age groups, the Foundation Company (ages 7–9) and the Emerging Company (ages 10+), this program offers advanced instruction, professional mentorship, and special performance opportunities in a focused, ensemble-driven environment.

Participation in the RISE Company is both an honor and a commitment, as members are held to high standards of discipline, collaboration, and personal responsibility. This page provides a comprehensive overview of what it means to be part of the RISE Company, including class structure, expectations, attendance requirements, dress code, policies on cell phone and social media use, behavior guidelines, and the consequences for failing to meet our standards.

Class Structure

The following class structure outlines how training is organized to ensure students receive a well rounded experience as members of our training company.  

Week 1: In class auditions for class assignments

  • Required: 2 contrasting 16-32 measure songs 
  • Required: A monologue 

Week 2-6: Skills training in voice & dance 

  • Voice: 50 minutes 
  • Dance: 1 Hour 

Week 6-12: Students will learn Cabert Repertoire 

  • Learn Acting motivation, blocking & staging 
  • Learn Choreography
  • Receive individual feedback from Director, Choreographer & Music Director

 

Class Expectations

To ensure a positive, productive, and professional environment for all students, the following expectations apply to every musical theatre class, rehearsal, performance and workshop session:

  1. Be Prepared
  • Arrive on time, dressed appropriately and ready to work.
  • Bring any required scripts, sheet music, notebooks, dance shoes, or water bottles & snacks
  • Review any materials or assignments in advance—practice outside of class is required and essential for growth.
  • Complete and turn in and homework assignments when assigned. 

2. Respect the Space and Each Other

  • Treat instructors, classmates, and guest artists with respect and kindness at all times.
  • Listen actively when others are speaking, performing, or giving feedback.
  • Take care of rehearsal spaces, sets, props & costumes— respect the space we share together 

3. Stay Focused and Engaged

  • Be present and attentive—limit distractions and keep phones silent and put away securely in your bag unless used for class purposes.
  • Give your full effort and energy to every activity, whether it’s warm-up, scene work, or choreography.
  • Take risks, make bold choices, and embrace feedback as part of the learning process.

4. Embrace Collaboration

  • Musical theatre is a team sport—your attitude and energy affect the whole group!
  • Support your peers and be willing to try new things, adapt, and communicate clearly.
  • Celebrate the success of others and contribute to a positive rehearsal culture.

5. Practice Professionalism

  • Use professional rehearsal etiquette:
    • Say “thank you” when receiving notes
    • Stay quiet when waiting your turn
    • Be kind to yourself and your peers
    • Strive for consistency, discipline, and growth.

6. Have Fun & Be Yourself!

  • Don’t be afraid to make mistakes—this is a space to learn and grow
  • Bring your unique self to every rehearsal. Your voice and presence matter!

 

Attendance

Attendance at all company rehearsals, tech rehearsals, workshops and performances are mandatory. If a student is unable to attend a rehearsal, workshop or performance, the instructor must be notified as soon as possible.

  1. Absences 
  • Absences will be considered excused only in the case of illness or a family emergency.
  • All other absences are considered unexcused.
  • If a student misses 1 rehearsal, a private coaching session may be required to ensure they are performance-ready. 
  • If a student misses 2 rehearsals it is mandatory to schedule a 45 minute private coaching session at a rate of $60 charged to your RISE iClassPro account. Failure to comply will result in a review of the students eligibility to stay in the program 
  • A student may not have more than 3 unexcused absences. This will result in review of students’ participation in the program ultimately resulting in suspension. Tuition is nonrefundable
  1. Tardy Policy 
  • If a student arrives after the start of class they are considered tardy. 
  • 3 tardies will result in an unexcused absence. 
  • In the event of an emergency parents please contact or email us for our record.

 

Rehearsal Dress Code

  • Company members should wear comfortable, fitted clothing appropriate for movement—such as rehearsal blacks, athletic wear, or RISE Theatre apparel. Graphic Tee’s or clothing are not allowed.
  • Jazz shoes or character shoes (as assigned) are required.
  • Large or dangling jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, anklets and earrings are not permitted
  • Hair must be neatly pulled back and secured away from the face.
  • Outside clothes, sneakers, flip flops & crocs are not permitted.

Cell Phone Policy

To maintain a focused and respectful learning environment, the following guidelines apply to all rehearsals, classes, and performances:

  • Cell phones, ipads and other electronic devices must be silenced and stored away during all class, rehearsal, and performance times unless permission is given by an instructor for educational use.
  • Students may not use phones to text, browse, or record during sessions unless explicitly instructed to do so.
  • If a student is found using a phone without permission during class or rehearsal for educational purposes, the instructor may collect the phone until the end of the session as a warning. If this occurs a second time, the phone will be collected until the end of the session and documented as an unexcused absence. 
  • Emergencies will always be handled with understanding and care—students will receive attention and assistance should an emergency arise.

 

Social Media Policy

RISE Theatre has a social media account @risetheatrehtx and we invite both parents and students to give us a follow! We encourage students to share their love for theatre responsibly and respectfully on social media. To protect the integrity of our program and the privacy of all participants, please observe the following:

  • Students may not post photos or videos from rehearsals, classes, or performances that include other students without permission.
  • Respect copyrighted material—do not post scripts, choreography, or music that has not been approved for public sharing.
  • Posts that reflect positive experiences, encouragement, are always welcome and appreciated!
  • Inappropriate content, including bullying, negative commentary, or anything that reflects poorly on the program or its members, may result in disciplinary action.
  • Students are expected to represent themselves and RISE Theatre with integrity, professionalism, and kindness both online and offline.

Zero Tolerance Policy

At RISE Theatre, we are committed to providing a safe, and respectful environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive. To ensure the well-being of every participant, we have a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding the following behaviors:

Prohibited Behaviors
  • Bullying or Harassment
    • Any form of verbal, physical, emotional, or cyberbullying will not be tolerated. 
  • Disrespectful Behavior Toward Instructors or Peers  
    • Disruptive, defiant, or disrespectful behavior directed toward staff, guest artists, or fellow students is unacceptable.
  • Use of Inappropriate Language or Gestures
    • Vulgar, offensive, or aggressive language or gestures are strictly prohibited in all RISE spaces, including rehearsals, performances, and online communication.
  • Theft, Vandalism, or Damage to Property
    • Damaging studio, theatre, or personal property will result in disciplinary action.

Consequences 

RISE Theatre reserves the right to take immediate action in response to any violation of this policy. Disciplinary actions may include:

  • Verbal or written warning
  • Temporary suspension from class or rehearsals
  • Required parent/guardian conference
  • Permanent removal from the program (without refund)

A Note to Families

We ask parents and guardians to support these policies by encouraging students to stay off their phones during training and use social media responsibly. Our goal is to maintain a creative and safe environment where every student feels respected and focused on their growth.

By participating in the RISE Musical Theatre Training Program, students and families agree to abide by these policies to foster a positive, professional, and productive community on and off the stage.
